This DVD has several purposes:
| • |
Instruct moms-to-be in asana, the physical poses, which help build strength and stamina to prepare a woman for the demands of labor, as well as alleviate some of the discomforts of pregnancy. The practice will include yoga poses that help create space between the rib cage and pelvis, which provides more room for a growing baby; poses that open the hip joints for an easier delivery; and poses that open the chest and counteract the tendency to slump forward because of an expanding belly. |
| • |
Instruct moms-to-be pranayama, or breathing exercises, which can help manage the discomfort of contractions, and meditation, which can improve the abilities to relax and concentrate during delivery. |
| • |
Provide complete instructions for doing each pose, including modifications for women in their second and third trimesters. |
| • |
Inform users of the purpose and benefit of each pose or practice for pregnancy. |
| • |
Provide safety precautions for practicing yoga during pregnancy. |
| • |
This DVD is being produced and distributed in partnership with Lamaze Intl.; therefore, there is an additional purpose of showing how yoga and Lamaze childbirth preparation techniques can be used together to facilitate a healthy birth. |
Approach:
|
| • |
To provide in-depth yoga instruction in an inspirational, accessible form that emulates the experience of having a private yoga instructor in your own home. |
| • |
To photograph the class film-style and in “real time” |
| • |
To deliver medically accurate information about pregnancy, yoga, and Lamaze childbirth preparation that helps the user have a healthy pregnancy and delivery. |
| • |
The teaching approach is ecumenical and not aligned with a particular school of yoga. |
